Objective: analyze and evaluate scientific literature data on the need for use of plant sterols stanols treatment hypercholesterolemia in order to reduce risk coronary heart disease. Materials methods. The article summarizes information publications journals search systems PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, as well library databases (eLibrary). Results. Phytosterols (phytosterols), phytostanols, are lipid-like compounds found foods origin. Their structure is similar cholesterol therefore they successfully compete with it absorption intestine, thus reducing flow into bloodstream.
